Hull University karate is the longest standing martial arts club at the university. It is also the most successful, as it still holds the record for the most consecutive wins at the student nationals held every year. Gendo-Kai was formed over 40 years ago by the late sensei Derek Lorrison 5th Dan. He held master grades at various martial arts including Wado-Ryu and Shotokan karate, Ju-Jitsu and Judo. He trained with some of the foremost proponents of the martial arts including Tatsuo Suzuki. The karate club is now run by Ian Campion (5th Dan) who was Dereks finest student and is supported by many outstanding black belts.
